6x9 Acrylic and Ink.

This is dealing with the myth of Hades and Persephone, but instead of him being the kidnapper, he is waiting for his future wife to come to him. This is also for a local show where the theme is "Chill", so this also relates to my hatred of Winter and waiting patiently for Spring to come back.

I love this.
The concept (using the myth, waiting for winter to end)
and the myth itself. I try to collect anything I can find involving it - I found some awesome poems by A.E. Cummings using the myth, one is a letter that Persephone writes to her mother.

Thanks!

My friend who teaches philosophy and mythology at my old college also pointed out that this is a dangerous subject. The many different versions of the myth and how they are interpreted can make it seem a less well intended subject, but I personally like to always take myths and tweak them to my own liking.

As Joseph Cambell says, (or something like it) Myth is always changing, and it is the artists and writers/ creative people of today who keep it living.

appropriation of a mythology and/or its characters are only help the myths live today - it also encourages people to find out more about these characters and stories, perhaps to search out the originals from the cultures they came from - thus encouraging the study of history.

I could go on and on, I forget how much I think about these kinds of things!
